The Liberia Athletics Federation (LAF) has set its 2016 Open Club Championship on Saturday, November 19, at the UL Fendall Campus. The time is 8:00am.
The Club Championship is expected to bring communities and school-based athletic clubs, including LAF’s registered clubs, together.
This year’s tourney would mark the first post-Ebola Club Championship.
The Chairman of the Organizing Committee, Coach Samuel Cooper said the registration is free and deadline will be on Saturday, November 19 at the UL Fendall Campus.
Coach Cooper stated that age-range is open, but sportsmanship, good behavior and anti-doping will be observed.
He disclosed that LAF Chairman on the Medical Committee, Emmanuel Argu, will be responsible for the anti-Doping component.
Meanwhile, the LAF Vice President for Technical Affairs, Frederick Krah, announced that the one-day event would comprise several events and the overall fastest and best-performing team would be crowned the 2016 Best Club.
He pointed out that during the Championship, a team of technicians would scout potential athletes which would probably represent country at the Sierra Leone Boxing Competition, in Freetown, Sierra Leone, in celebration of the country’s festive season.
The LAF Vice President indicated that the federation is seeking sponsorship from corporate institutions. The LAF is among some sporting associations that is not receiving budgetary allocations or subsidies from the Liberian government.
